1. The basic meaning of “pet” is an animal we keep for emotional rather than economic reasons. A pet animal keeps us company and reduces our stress and loneliness. But pets offer us more than just companionship; they provide us the opportunity to love and be loved.
2. Pets can calm us and bring us out of a funk when human words don’t help.
3. When pets depend on us for food and shelter, they make us feel needed and important.

Keeping a pet around means young kids have the access to the more natural world in this “Plastic Age”, and learning to care for a pet helps a child to grow into a loving adult who feels responsible for those who depend on them and towards the society that needs their contribution for a better world too.

1. Keeping pets is just a waste of time, energy, and resources.
2. Pets and children often fight over care and love in the family. It’s ridiculous and degrading to see children jealous of pets. And to make things worse, people nowadays are so crazy about pets that they even neglect caring for their own children.
3. A campaign should be launched by the government to put overpopulation of pets in urban area under control. Plus, the ever-growing number of pets has caused serious hygiene problem that cannot be solved in a short time.
4. Pets are often humanized by those who keep pets. Owing to their need for a home, for food and drink, pets are tamed and idealized by their owners.
5. Pet dogs and cats of both sexes should be sterilized because the animals themselves are in danger of becoming the first victims for the simple reason that their owners don’t have enough time for too many of them.
6. Not all that keep pets are responsible, instead they often abandon their pets when they go away on holiday and are unable to take the pets along with them.
7. It’s a shame that many animals eat much better food than some of us human do, and we should use that money on the impoverished people in the under-developed countries.
8. It’s really against nature to cage birds, chain dogs and keep cats within the house.
